IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week

“Promoting education based athletics in Indiana”

In the world of sports, conditions can change in a split second. Leads shrink or disappear because of a turnover, an injury, a home run by the opponent, an interception, or maybe even a questionable call by an official. Sometimes things happen that you have little control over, and the score can change quickly.

This past week we have seen how quickly things can change around us because of the coronavirus, a contagious virus that has affected people all over the world. Schools have closed, people are working from home, sporting events are being postponed or completely cancelled, and now the student-athlete and all students will participate in e-learning from home instead of going to class.

While it’s always easy to say that we play sports for fun, the truth is that this past week put that saying into reality. The coronavirus will affect your schooling and sporting events for the rest of the year and maybe even longer. So much is still up in the air as to how things will look like a few weeks from now.

The game of life is a lot like athletics; things can change in an instant. Being an athlete should help prepare you for the challenging times ahead. Think how your favorite coaches and teachers have trained you and done things that prepare you for challenging times, and now is the time to start putting them to use!!
