Arabians News · Message from Superintendent Dr. Hall

Dear SMCSC Students & Parents:

Indiana state leaders and health officials have stated it is now appropriate to reopen schools. As such, South Madison Community School Corporation is planning to resume in-person classes five days a week beginning on August 6th, 2020.  It is our intention at this time not to alter the traditional school calendar.

As we plan for in-person instruction it would be irresponsible not to recognize the need for increased attention to be paid to the health and safety of our school community.  We are currently working on comprehensive re-entry plans with various stakeholders including the Madison County Health Department.

It is our goal to create a plan collaboratively that is based on the level of COVID-19 spread present in our school community.  We want to have multiple options available in our plan based on the current level of spread, so we can react incrementally instead of just being either open or closed.  Our planning includes providing a virtual option for the upcoming school year for students who do not wish to return.  The detailed plans will be communicated to the public in mid-July once they have been completed.

We will begin to gradually bring students back onto campus on a limited basis beginning on July 6th when extracurricular activities are allowed to begin.  Protocols to minimize the risk of spreading COVID-19 have been developed for each extracurricular activity based on guidance from the Indiana Department of Education, Indiana High School Athletic Association, Indiana State Music Association, and state and local health officials. The protocols will be communicated to students and parents before any activity begins.

We are looking forward to once again serving our students in-person. Please remain alert for any updates and periodically check our district website for information related to our re-entry plans.
