At the latest school board meeting the South Madison Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees voted to approve the recommendation to hire Desire Gibson as the next head coach of Pendleton Heights Cheerleading.
Gibson was a Pendleton Heights cheerleader in high school and cheered collegiately at Indiana University. Following college, Gibson started her coaching career. She served as an instructor for Universal Cheer Association (UCA) and as an assistant coach at Hamilton Southeastern.
Gibson joined the Pendleton Heights cheer staff in 2019 as an assistant coach where she spent the past two seasons working under Coach Brenda Jamerson. Gibson was thrilled to return home. “After coaching at HSE for a year I decided it was best to come to my Pendleton roots,” she said. During her time with the Arabians, Gibson gradually took on more responsibility each year in preparation for this opportunity.
Pendleton Heights Athletic Director, Chad Smith, is looking forward to the next chapter in cheer. “Pendleton Heights has established itself as a leader in the cheer arena. Desire has worked under a couple of the best cheer coaches in the business and she is ready to lead her own program. We are confident that she will continue the Arabians cheer success but most importantly she knows how important it is to be a role model and mentor to our young men and women at Pendleton Heights. We take that very seriously in our athletic department and Desire Gibson is a living example as to what that leadership and mentoring can do for someone.”
Gibson will be replacing Brenda Jamerson who retired after 19 seasons of leading the Arabians. She will have to hit the ground running with tryouts already scheduled for April. “I’m so excited to come full circle and be a head coach at Pendleton Heights where I spent the majority of my cheerleading career!”
